The future of the Concord mine has been conclusively settled within the past few weeks, and that it Is destined to be come one of the great big mines of the world has been demonstrated beyond an opportunity for a quibble. The above facts set forth are apparent to anyone who will visit the property and place him self for a brief hour In the hands of W. W. Robbins, manager of the mine, or Foreman C. J. Carlson, either of whom will take pleasure In demonstrating that we speak nothing but the truth and yet we have not told half of it. As stated In these columns a few weeks since, the big Blaine ledge has been en countered in the eat crosscut and for ten days or more work has progressed steadily on the drift. The average assays of the pay shoot, which Is more than three feet In width, will run above $30 per ton. The ledge is unbroken and is the most clearly defined and handsome proposition in these mountains. In the west crosscut recently a magnifi cent lode, measuilug nearly 10 feet from wall to wall, has been opened and work of drifting on this Is now In progress. This Is supposed to be the Concord vein proper, and Is expected to show wonder ful values when properly exploited. The Concord mine can now measure up a mil lion dollars worth of high grade ore. There is little doubt but a big mill will be erected on this property during the sum mer. LawtonStaiidaro Value of Chromic Iron. Since a great amount of chromic iron Is found in parts of Grant county, Informa tion on the subject will be of value to all paties who are developing this class of properties. This Information can be re lied upon, since it has just been re ceived at tills office from the International Correspondence school of Scran ton, Penn sylvnnla: "To be of value chromitemtist contain above 50 per cent chromic oxide. Pure ore contains 68 per cent of the oxide. Ores which are of the greatest value average about 55 percent. Those below 50 per cent are practically worthless. Cal ifornia ores, delivered on the Atlantic coast, bring about f 23 per ton for ore con taining 50 per cent of the oxide, and bring about $1 extra for each unit above $0 per cent." Canyon City Eagle. Organized Band of Cattle Rustler. The statement Is made to a Robe news paper that the country between Whine mucca, Nevada, and Ontario, Oregon, Is infested with an organized gang of cattle rustlers. We have heard no complaint on this subject from local stockmen, and are loth to think that the Industry in this sec tion Is subject to more than the usual amount of peculation, which honest en deavor meets always and everywhere. Our cattle men are active and alert, and we fancy their Interests are guile well safegurded. Harney County News. MAP GIVEN AWAY. How to Get a Large One of ine United States, for the Wall.
