Wednesday, November B 1900 THE SUMPTER MINER. 1 FKNNER IS A HUSTLER. Consummated Two Mining Deals in Seattle. C. H. Fenner returned from the Sound Sunday and left yesterd.iy for Idaho. He made two mining deals in Seattle while away and expects to close another in Ida ho within a few days. The immediate purpose of his trip to Seattle was the sale of th May Belle, a direct extension of the Minneapolis, in Cracker Creek district. This is the prop erty Nick Kudebeck came hereto examine iwo or three weeks ago, for Henry Hewitt, Jr. Tlie sale was made on Mr. Kude beck's recommendation, though in the transfer Mr. Hewitt' name does not ap pear. This is the deal on which the Knockers plied their hammers with enthu siastic glee. Ihe purchasers are sev eral "business men of Seattle, headed by A. W. Frater, receiver of one of the banks there. Mr. Fenner says that this was a spot cash transaction and lie therefore does not know what are the intentions of the buyers. The claim is no more than a .prospect, with practically no development work, and was sold purely on the merits of the Minneapolis, which lias one of the strongest veins in the district, extending throughout the May Belle. He also floated the Oregon group, In the same locality. O. H. D.ihl, of Seat tle, is the leading spirit in this syndicate. A company will be incorporated, the stock nrfered for sale and work commenced on the property at an early day. The object of Mr. Fenuer's trip to Idaho is to make a mill run on ore from a big mine on which he and B. Sanderson Smith have a bond. If this test is satis fictory, the bond will be taken up at once. The name of the pioperty or its location he does not care to make public .it this time, but says it Is an extensively developed mine, with large ore bodies blocked out, alt ready for a mill. Ingram-Butler Nuptials. Tom Ingram, the popular young sales man at Mauley's store, returned to Sump ter Sunday afternoon with Ills bride, wio was formerly Miss Nellie Butler.of Baker City, where she had lived for a year, having come there from Kansas City. Rev. James Byers, the Presbyterian mln-i-terof this city, performed the leremouy and returned with the the couple, who were met at the train by a large crowd of friends and showored with rice when they stepped from the car. Mr. and Mrs. lug-am have established their home In the Hilller residence, on upper Granite street. Stock Reduction Sale. W. R. Hawley wants to reduce his stock in the old store before moving 'o the new one, November 20. Beginning next Monday, November 12, and for one week thereafter all goods, consisting of furnish ings, men's hats, shoes, etc., ladle's jack ets, dry goods, In fact every thing except groceries, will be sold regardless of profit, to make room for new goods. The larg est line of holiday goods and toys ever shown in Sumpter will be opened In the new store. Heavy Sale of Powder. As an evidence that there is extensive mining development work going on in this district, the representative of the Cali fornia Powder works, making the Hercu les powder, assured Claude Basche that he has sold his firm in Sumpter alone, more powder vm any other h-mse in tlie state "of Oregon or Washington, and that only one house in Montana and one in the Coeur d'Alene country handled any more of the explos ive than was sold here. If anyone desires to challenge this statement, let him go afterthe Basche Hardware company which has something to say on page eleven of this issue. Town Council Proceeding. Owing to the lack of a quotum, no business was transacted by tlie city council Saturday evening, though affairs were dNci'ssed at length. A meeting was, held Monday evening, when the regular monthly bills were allowed, reports of officials filed, the call for the city election issued and a job lot of unimportant routine business disposed of. The election is called for December 4, when .1 mayor, three couacilmen, recorder and marshal will be elected. There will be but one voting place for the entire town. The judges appointed are J. P. Baird, Thomas Taylor and Clark Snyde; clerk, S. H. Durgin and Fred Teiijen. Manager of the Grant County Bank. Phil Metschan, Jr., and wife, of Port land, arrived here Sunday en route to Can yon City, where Mr. Metschan Is to have charge of the new bank to he established there by A. P. Goss, of Sumpter. Mr. Goss has apparently made a wise selection In his cashier or manager, as Mr. Metschan, who was born in Canyon City, is generally popular with the people there, as is also his father, the ex-state treasurer, who was a former resident of that section. The bank will open for business on the 12th Inst. The Tempeit Will Resume Shipping. A large body of high grade ore, said to run $100 and better, has recently been un covered in the Tempest, in the Greenhorn district, and arrangements have been made to resume shipping. Ihe operators were in Sumpter a few days since and J perfected plans with the Sumpter For- I warding company to handle the ore.
