the grade of the Sumpter Valley railroad

Colonel Donan on Our Gold Fields.
A private letter received by a gentleman
in Sumpter from Colonel Donan, states
that he read the revised proofs of his folder
and booklet, issued by the O. R. & N.,

days since and that they should both be
ready lor distribution in a few days. In
these works the Sumpter district gets a
sqiiale deal.and people, here are anxious
and impatient for them to be placed iii the
hands 01 the public. They will be distri
buted through railroad ticket agents and
will be placed in every ollice in the United

making a deal. The mine is located at

1S44 when the placer excitement at Alder
(iulcli was raging. It produced over
9700,000 in gold and then apparently was '
exhausted and its owners abandoned it.'
Not long ago C. C. Damours began
work on it and uinoveied a big ledge
which ran Si.Koo in gold. The Is ear-1
sarge is thought to be the source ol ,
most ot the wash gold washed out ot
Alder and other placets. The quart in
the mines is much ot it impregnated with
gold resembling the pl.icrr wash. The .
