B2RSM CMQl! Columbia Brewing & Malting Co., SUMPTER, OREGON. QUARTZBURG DISTRICT. Frit and Dwycr Encouraged over the Out look of Their Property. K. J. Dwyer and H. H. Frit, returned Monday from their mining property in the Quartzburg district, neir Prairie City. They are encouraged over the outlook and will prosecute development work. They brought In some good samples, carrying copper and gold, but say they .are now working in stringers. They hope to cut the vein within thirty days. Mr. Dwyer says the Quartzburg district is a promising one, but as yet not suf ficient work has been done on any claim to determine definitely what the country is going to amount to. As is all other comparatively new districts, there has been a whole lot of "gopherholing" by men who know little or nothing about 'mining, a method-of. squandering energy and wasting labor 'that 5 make a inining man weary to the limit. As In other' new districts which has sprung quickly into public attention, all the ground is .taked, irrespective of the existence of ledges. Prairie City, he says, is an attractive little town with a still more attractive future. Aside from the mining interests in that vicinity, its substantial backing of a good stock, grain and fruit country, with a prospective railway, insures both .1 boom and a substantial growth. The mines, when they are proven to be as good as they look, are going to make Prairie City a hummer. Looking For Invettmcnt. James W. Pruitt, of Chicago, and W. W. Scott, of Hoopston, Illinois, are making a general round of the district with the object of seeing and learning practically what is here for their own in formation and that of eastern friends, who are willing to invest their money if they find what is considered a favorable opening. After visiting only a portion of the country within the past several days they are each well pleased and will re main a week or more. It is unnecessary to state than the mines are what interest them and it is more than likely they will become financially connected here before they leave. Proposed Improvement at the Cougar. J. W. Larkins, of the Cougar mine, left for Spokane one day last week, on a trip combining business with pleasure. Recent developments in the Cougar give such rich showings that a conference with the stockholders of the company has been decided upon relative to extensive im provement of this magnificent property.
