THE SUMPTER MINER. 1 1 BRICK BLOCK SOLD Salem Man Buys From Jones and Yerger a trip to all of the adjacent mining camps, to be away the rest of the week. Tom, Grav Is supposed to be over in Montana somew here. This leaves Major Mosby alone In Ills glory around the Sumpter I Townslte company's offices, but the man j who thinks he can go In there and escape 1 OUR GREAT FIRE SALE OF DAMAGED GOODS .. Wednesday, June 6, 1900 J. E. Allen, of Salem, bought yesterday from Jones & Yerger their brick block, just south of the railroad track, on Mill street. The consideration Is not known. The building was erected last winter by the owners, who are contractors. It Is a one story structure and consists of two store rooms. One of these is now occu pied by the Hobson Mercantile co.npany and the other by the Sumpter Townslte company, as an office. Mr. Allen has been In Sumpter about a week, and Is favorably impressed with the camp, rightly judging that it lias a great future, as the distributing point for the eastern Oregon gold fields. His son has been here for a year past. He is not tawing the public Into his con fidence as to why he made this purchase; whether merely as nn Interest bearing investment, or to occupy himself. He was formerly engaged in the mercantile business at Salem, but for several years past has been farming. Bring Along Your Ores Every detail has been completed at the Sumpter smelter for treating the ore pro duct of the district, and owners of mines who have long waited this necessary en terprise should now begin to send In the supply which has, In many instances, been lying on the dump for many months. The management of the smelter has ex pended a handsome sum of money Incom plete the plant and now only needs the encouragement of the mine owners, which should not be held back for another day. The attention of every one inter ested Is called to the advertisement of the Smelter company elsewhere in these col umns. Make use of the good condition of the roads while you can, by starting your ores at once. Editor Man Makes Queer Promiuf Colonel Jay Nat Hudson, of the Granite Houlder, makes some queer promises to Ills readers, apparently unsolicited. Wonder why he makes such a job lot of resolves as this: "No the Boulder will not pay for phone services before bills are due. The Boulder man will not try to play the 'real nice young fellow' among the young ladles of his vicinity, while his wife remains at home many, miles away in blissful Ignorance of his funny capers. The Boulder man will not assume leader ship among the local democrats and at the same time run his paper in the interest of the Joe Simon-Moody wing of the republican party. Other things he will not do are left for future announcements." Two Stray Hones Two large dark bay horses about six teen hands high, weigh about 1250 pounds each, shod all round, one branded "I.T" on left stifle, blind In right eye; the other no brand, came to Eureka stable June 1.
