and landed the convention In Sumpter be
fore he would take a mouthful to eat
nothing is said about liquid refreshments.
He has done much work for the demo
cratic party in this county and has asked
for nothing for himself; so when he made
this request for his town, the committee
voted unanimously to grant it.
The convention will be held in Sumpter
April 7, when 107 delegates will be in at
tendance and no telling how many office
seekers and rubbernecks. Mr. Jones will
ask the citizens of this camp, irrespective
'of party, to do the handsome thing on the
occasion of the first poiitital convention to
be held here, to give the delegates cordial
reception and hospitable treatment. A
banquet will doubtless be tendered them
Saturday evening at the close of the con
vention. The Baker Glty Democrat of Sunday

ACTIVITY IN THE GREENHORN.
About to Bcfta Dtrcktpncat Oa the Im
perial, la Quarts Gulch.
R. D. Chumley, the well known min
ing man, Is In from the Greenhorn moun
tains, where he has passed the winter
exploiting the properties In which he, to
gether with many Baker City men, are in
terested. Mr. Chumley's properties are situated
adjacent to the Don Juan, the June Bug,
Banzette, Golden Eagle and many other
important and well known mines. Mr.
Chumley says that there Is still great
depths of snow there, so as to preclude
prospecting in any except partially devel
oped properties. He says that the people
from The Dalies are doing the best work
of any In that locality. They seem to be
mining in a systematic and thorough
manner, and they have reasons to be en
couraged from the way the Golden Eagle
is looking at present. That mine, it Is
said, is showing stopes of ore which guar
antee continual running of the mill for the
next twelve months.
The many members of the company,
including Judge Fish, Jesse Hostetter
and Mr. Supret, have been examining the
property, staying at the mine for over a
week, and they are highly pleased with
what they have seen. The mill now on
the ground is not sufficiently large to
answer the purposes, but they will con
tinue to use it until the mine is more
thoroughly developed, because with this
mill they can pay all their expenses and
be fully prepared for future work on a
more extensive scale.
The company at present has a large
force of men at work on the property; and
further than this, they are about to com
mence development on an extensive
scale on Dick Kelly's famous property, the
Imperial In Quartz gulch. The company
has acquired a controllng Interest In this
large ledge and Is going to commence
work at once and put It on its feet.
