DIVIDEND, 3 PER CENT.
Sumpter Townsite Co. De
clares Its First.
The Sumpter Townsite Co., Limited,
has declared its lirst dividend of three per
cent on its capital stocU of fi.ooo.ooo.
In future dividends will be paid monthly.
This is the amount the directors decided
could be spared after paying nil the com
pany's Indebtedness, creating a reserve
fund and setting aside sufficient moneys
which will be required to meet certain con
templatable early investments. Thecom
pany has been in existence only about
two months, having absorbed the Sump
ter Townsite Syndicate. The last named
concern began the sale of lots only last
October.
Some days since W. C. Calder, secre
tary of the (.ompany returned from, Hol
land, H. C, where he went to interview
Governor Macintosh and other stock
holders on the subject, and on his return
the dividend was declared. While north
It was also definitely determined to en
gage in same eMensive enterprises at an
early diy. the exact nature of which the
company does not now care to make pub
lit. It Is thought, however, that the
most Important of these is the building of
the electric road to Bourne.
Mr Calder is always on the safe side of
every proposition, and Is extremely coy
about giving out Information for publlca
tion. He regards a statement of this kind,
that his company intends to do so and so,
about in the same light as lie does a prom
isory note, which must be paid on the day
I named. Therefore when he announces
I that the Sumpter Townsite Co., Limited,
I has decided to undertake some Important
enterprise for the good of this town, It can
be relied upon that the,, unnamed project
will eventuate on schedule time. Mean
while the newspapers and the, public are
at liberty to speculate on the variety of
bird the setting hen will hatch.
The gentleman also brings the cheerful
intelligence that the unsettled condition
of English and Canadian money markets,
owing to the South African war, will in
no way effect any Sumpter proposition,
through Interested Canadian capital.
