A. E. Dagany Is Erecting a
Three-Story One.
Wednesday, January 3, 1900
A. E. Dagany has begun the erection of
a three-story building, 24x85 feet, to con
tain 33 rooms, on his property corner of
Mill and Sumpter streets.
The building is Intended to be used as
a first class hotel, having been leased for
one year with renewal rights by J. A.
Fowler, a recent arrival in Sumpter, who
has the good business judgment to begin
early preparations for the heavy travel to
this place In the earlv spring and sunv
mer, though It is no error to say his new
house will be filled from Its opening day,
which will be not later than February 1.
The new hotel will be on the American
plan and well appointed in all respects.
Contractor George Snyder Is In charge of
the work, which Insures its early comple
tlon. "Miner" Prlntery and "Lltho-Printing."
Things are progressing in this camp,
but cone too swift for THI: MINER'S
natural gait. Since "we" went to press
last week we (the same as above) have
added to our (possessive of "we") al
ready absolutely perfect metropolitan
printing house, a si.vhlt chair, a broom
and an oil can, and had our scissors sharp
ened with a rat tail file. Next spring, If a
leading and accomplished business man of
this progressive city doesn't throw us
down on a job of 250 sixth-sheet bill heads
which he has promised us, we will buy a
pound and a half of six-to-pica leads and
a bo of thoroughly up-to-date hickory
iuolns, thus making this the most su
perbly equipped prlntery this side of
H epner Junction. Among the most
perfectly lovely jobs which we have
turned out this month is a set of a doen
placards for one of our (meaning the town
this time) most enterprising saloon men,
announcing that no drinks go with bill
iard games. The piece of exquisite litho
printing is done mi the very finest two-ply
stem-winding straw board, with the finest
quality of sixteen cent black news Ink,
the press work being equal to that done
"in the city offices" on a proof press.
One of these will be placed on exhibition
in the high art building of the county fair
to be held next fall at Oshkosh. And if
you see it in TUll MINER, whistle for the
police.

M. H. Allen, formerly employed in the
railroad shops at La Grande, has had
good success at Sumpter, where he has
resided during the past two years. Reing
in the field early, Mr. Allen was enabled
to get in on the ground Moor, and Is re
puted to have piled up several thousand
dollars In real estate transactions during
the past two months. Mr. Allen was a
passenger to Portland this week, the ob
ject of his trip being to purchase a stock
of merchandise for a general store to be
opened at Sumpter at the earliest possible
