Crabtrce, Or., Dec. 2. (To the Ed
itor.) In answer to the article pub
lished in the Semi-Weekly Democrat
of November II, 1913, in regard to
Crablrec being an ignorant, back
woods precinct, will say I certainly
pity Crabtrec precinct, that it hasn't
a legal right, to vote as they see fit
without some egotists butting in. If
they are ashamed to live here, 1 am
sure the "82" will extend them a wel
come "get out." It is u shame the
mghminded have to spend their pre
ciotis lives among people without
brains or intellect. You will notice in
the reading of the article that that one
composed the article and the other
communicated it to the paper for pub
lication, thus shielding the correspon
dent of all blame. You will further
notice the correspondent was ashamed
to sign his or her name. 'Truly the
highminded should be ashamed to let
their neighbors know the1' classed
tlleul as beasts of burden without
bruins or intellect, nnd that the high-
minded themselves should have the
sole right to say how the affairs of
this county should he carried on. 1
ant not casting any reflection on the
outcome of the election or the people
that voted as their conscience dictated
which they had n perfect right to do,
but I am sorry we have some high
minded (perhaps I should say feeble
minded) in our neighborhood, that is
so disgusted that thev hnvc to resort
to the county paper to bawl out the
majority as being without brains or
intellect.
'Here's hoping and praviug that
-tre few communities in Oregon
that have in their midst such people
as the authors of the article herein
mentioned.

Curl Is Running Strong.
That L. M. Curl is running strong
in the first and second wards but is
being led a close race in the third
ward is the prevailing opinion. How
ever, it is believed that the final vote
will give him a big majority over Will
Richards the Socialist candidate, for
the recordership .'the irace centers
about 1'". E. Van Tassel, incumbent
and IS. M. Payne. Conflicting opin
ions are versed over the success oi
either of these candidates. M. 1'. Hays,
the Socialist candidate, it is believed
is polling quite a few votes in the
East end.
Austin Picked as Winner.
Election gossip has it that Anthony
Austin will have a walk away. It is
pointed out that because of his non
liquor policy and his past record in
regard to this, is bringing him hun
dreds of women's votes. However,
there are many who are inclined to
think that Cummins anil Kics arc
lose seconds It is the unanimous
verdict that H. B. Cusick will be elec
ted treasurer by all but a few votes,
over E. C. Krause, the Socialist candidate.
Councilman Job Hotly Contested.
Tin. flight in the first ward tor
councilman is between Francis Pfeif-
fer nnd E. V. Smith. Socialist. In
the second ward M. J. Cameron is
believed to be leading J. Creamer,
Socialist, by a big majority, the light
for councilman in the third ward is
between Henrv Lyons, incumbent
and Henry McElniurry. It is hotly
contested and the election dope ar
tists are wont to prophesy.
