The Republicans fear a Newberry

mediately after Newberry came to the
Senate and Was forced into his seat by
the .Republican leaders, and effort was
made to keep down any agitation for
a review of the catc. Eventually, Sen
ator Kenyon of Iowa, a Republican,
supported the Democratic demand for
an investigation and the Republican
feared to make further open move
ments in Newberry's refente, though
at no time did they press for an in
vestigation. No Republican clamor can remove
the fict that the Republicans in con
trol of Congress did not question New
berry's title to hi seat in the Senate

made against him. It w.ll not be for
gotten in the next campaign that
month after month Newberry retain
ed bis seat and that he wa oremitted
to vote upon Important national que
tions. It will be remembered that if

willingness of the Republicans to
champion the cause of purity in clec
' lions.

the heavy expenditures of the Repub

work for the eomfort of our Army. I
am thoroughly acquainted with con
ditions there, and am so bitterly op
posed to the impious and dreadful
idea of bringing the bodies borne, that
I aeek to enlist against it the gold
star women of this land.
"I intend to publish a pamphlet,
which I will gladly send gratuitously
to any woman who will send me her
name and address."
