The roads are fairly good for win
ter but they could be much better. If
somo plan could be devised by which
gravel could be procured without too
much expense to keep tho roads lead
ing Into the highway passable, it
would be a great convenience to all
who travel. Many farmers are will
ing to do any amount of work in or
der to improve the roads if the coun
ty court would only pay them half
wapes, and put in good time; for they
are more than anxious to see the
reads put in better condition, and the
only way to get it done ia to show a
willingness to help in every way they
can to obtain the desired results.

LEBANON, Feb. 21. Special. Mr.
Laurence, an aged gentleman residing !
one and a half miles east of Griggs
station, while on the way to Crabtree
with one of his small children, fell
dead from the wagon and frightened
the team, which started to run. The
child's screams caused someone on
the road to come to the rescue and
stopped the team. The child was un
injured. The supposition is that heart !
failure was the cause of Mr. Laup-1
ence's death.
