FRINTIPLKS OF BOLSHEVISM
People who have leen trying, with
out much success, to learn precisely
what Bolshevism stands for, mny de
rive enlightenment from the stnte
ment of Dr. Oudendijik. Dutch min
ister in Petrugrad. As interviewed by
the London Times, he says:
"Translated into practice, the five
points of Bolshevism really come to
this: (1) High wages; t-'l don't
work; (3) take other people's proper
ty; 1.4) no punishment; to) no taxa
tion." He speaks from lone acquaintance
and careful observation of the old re
gime and the new. He has known
Russia for "0 years. And as a result
of more than "a year of Bolshevism,
"never have the working classes of
Russia suffered as they are suffering
at the present moment. 1 have
nevei seen or dreamed of the possibil
ity of such corruption, tyranny and
the absence of all semblance of free
dom as there are in Russia now "
He concludes that the future of Rus
sia is hopeless. But survly there is
hene even in the extremity of such an
evil situation. A socinl and political
disease when it becomes bad enouirh
tends to cure itself. Surely the Rus
sian masses will understand, sooner
or later. th origin of the evils they
suffer, and repudiate the system
which is responsible before they them
selves are utterly destroyed. If aot.
we are tempted to lose our faith not
merely in human nature but in that
common sense which is supposed to be
the heritage of all races.
