Allies' fighting forces and to keep up, among the civil
ian populations, the spirit to win the war. That, alone,
has made -the American Red Cross one of the largest
factors since our entry into the war.
Canteens which provided food and hot drinks
more than -a million meals to soldiers in December:
warehouses, crammed with materials, situated all along
the French line, all along the Italian lines. :at seaports
and at places where our soldiers are going to fight;1
institutions for the care of consumptives, institutions
for the re-education of maimed men these are a few
of the concrete accomplishments abroad.
At home the millions of woolen sweaters, muf
flers, socks and other comforts for the men in camps;
the work . of sanitation around cantonments and the.
help and advice given dependents of soldiers and sailors
these are things which will "make you, your children
and your children's children, in whatever part of the
world they may be, proud of being Americans."

Globe Theatre. Seethinit crowds of

; yeaterday afternoon and last nitrht, all
breathlessly awaiting; the starting of
. the wonderful picture. And then it
came. And as this mass of patriotic
Americana saw the masterful .torv
; unfold and witnessed the downfall of
Europe's madman, they arose as a
unit and for ths first time in Albany's
history they fairly rocked the build
ing with cheers. The Dicture onens in
quiet, peaceful Belgium. We see flocks 1
of sheep calmly grazing in green mea
dows, the peasant carrying on their
various humble vocations and the good
old village blacksmith at his forge. We
see a Belgian maid being led to the
altar by a big peasant boy, and the
happy smiling faces thst accompanv
them as they wend their way to the
parish. Then came the crash, titanic,
colossal staggering. Joy died. Hope
fled. Desolation became supreme. Ud
on that day the world passed into
twilight. The baneful autocracy of
Prussia had spoken. By a trick of
circumstances the weal of mankind
was placed for a moment In the hand
of an arrant egotist, tyrant, madman
William of Hohenzollem. The great
est crime in sll history was perpetrat
ed that one man might find for him
self a place in the sun. Blinded by
the gods there flashed forth in the
mind of thisone man a madness, a
fatuity, a mania fatal, malignant, Sa
tanic. From beyond the dim horizons
began the tireless thudding of guns.
The rich fields, the peaceful farm, the
busy city, became the barracks, the
or made prisoners. Twenty-two mil
lion families mourned and hungered
and suffered.
But there was another man who
lived in the White House, the chief
and sHkesman of a great nation that
believes all people were born free and
equal, with a right to peace and hap
piness. And so the end came, and
when the echo of the last cannon had
died upon the air, the .ilvor-throated
bells of all the world rang forth the
