TANGENT, March 2. (Special) The community meeting Inst Saturday March 23 was a decided success in spite of the fact that farm work kept many of the men away. The program consisted of lectures by Mr. Kinnerty of Albany. Mr. Maxwell of llulsoy. Mr. Van Taasell of Albany and Mr Horner of Corvallis. Vocal solos were given by Miss Nellie Morgan, Miss Opal Sper and Robert Taylor. Piano solo by Miss Townes was enjoyed. A piano duet was given by Misses Hal lie Jenks and Bessie Swope; a recita tion by Searle Pennebaker and a min uet by the intermediate room of the Tangent school. At noon a Hoover dinner consisting of ryebread sandwiches, baked beans pickles, salad, one-crust pie and coffee and was served by the high school girls. It was enjoyed by all. The Tangent school has been hav ing a "thrift contest- t'oints were riven for Thrift Stamps, War Savings Stamps and Liberty Bonds. Any room which was 25 per cent thrift got 600 points, SO per cent thrift got 1.000 points. 75 per cent thrift got 3,000 noints and 100 per cent thrift got 5, 000 points. The room having the moat points was to receive a half-holiday. The high school won the contest but the intermediate and grammar rooms were very close, each being 100 per cent thrift. Altogether, the pupils of our school now own $1143.25 in Thrift Stamps War Savings stamps Bonds. and Liberty RED CROSS STORE IN URGENT NEED OF CLOTHING The Red Cross store on Broadalbin street is again badly in need of shoes and clothing of all kinds, as the sup ply is about all sold. Anyone having clothes and shoes of any size and description should bring them to the store. Calls are being made every day for them.
