MENT REGARD INS COLLEGE
To the editor: An article appeared
in your edition ot yesterday quoting
the First National bank of this cit
regarding the reported work 01 agents
soltcuing students for business
courses through the extension de
partment of some business school.
The name 01 no chool was mention
ed, but evidently the article referred
to myself as principal of the exten
sion department of the Northwestern
Business college, of Spokane, Wash
ington, brcause, so far as I can as
certain, this is the only institution
of the kind referred to, now solicit
ing tftudents in Linn county for bus
iness courses m an extension depart
ment The article left an impression that
the agents who are soliciting students
are making misrepresentations, and
practically stated that the proposition
m a "fake.
The Northwestern Business college
which 1 represent is an institution
which was organized in 1899 and Jhas
been engaged in thisx work continu
ously since that time. This is an
accredited commercial school and a i
member of the National Association
of Accredited Commercial , school.
The institution has a three-story
building in Spokane which it uses
exclusively for the purpose of con
ducting a business college and has
more than U) students enrolled an
nually, and through its extension
course, it affords to young people
who cannot leav their work to at
tend a business college, an oppor
tunity for a practical business edu
cation. This school courts the ful
lest investigation. It has references
from the1 Old National bank of Spo
kane, one of the lending financial in
stitutions of the West, and other
banks and commercial concerns of
recognized sjanding as to its financial
responsibility and it has recommenda
tions from scores of former students
as to the character of instruction fur
nished and the reliability of its work.
These are open to inspection and 1

would be glad if any person would
write to Spokane and seek all inform,
alion possible regarding the institu
tion. It may be, as the article said, that
there have been some "iakf propo
sitions" of this kind worked in Linn
county. Regarding that matter 1
hove no knowledge, but I consider
the article very unfair and misleading
because our institution Sas classed
as one of that kind, and 1 feel that
the impression created by the article
should be corrected as it is causing
us injury and damage. L. M LEWIS,
