After a Pin-
Miss Julia Soucck swallowed a pin
something over a week ago. She went
to Albaay the latetr part of last week
and had an X ray examination made,
but . the missing pin was not located.

Elwood Rhodes, son of W. H.
Rhodes, who has been ill for the past
few days, is reported much better to
day and is expected to be around again
in a short time. Last night he snt up

city Saturday from Chehalis and with
ir. Thompson, assistant manager of
the Worth Department Store, is. tem
porarily living at the St. Francis ho

The Military Ball
A fcatnre of the big ball of the
Coast Artillery Corps at the armory
tomorrow night, will be the presence
of the Pheasants in uniform, "prepar
ed" for the festivities of the occasion.
George Washington's birthday will be
rememhercd on this occasion. A first-
class local orchestra will furnish the
vnusic. Ricca. the accordianist, will be
present and play during the evening.
Former Albany Man
Henry Kirsch, of Mill City, has been
in Ihe city today.
Bought a Dodge
The Ralston Motor Co. Saturday
sold a Dodge to H. G. Sprengcr, of
Sliedd, and it will be easy covering the
country now.
Holiday Tomorrow
Tomorrow being Washington's
birthday there will be only one deliv
ery of mail, in the morning. The R. K.
D. men will not go out. The general
delivery will be open from 1:30 to
2:30.

Illinois, who have recently opened the

Sales Day Saturday
Saturday will be public sales day,
since the 2tith is the last Saturday in
the mouth. It is Hot known what has
been entered as yet but it is presum
ed that even a better list will be
brought out than has been offered for
sale for some time. Last sales day
found snow on the ground, but a
good crowd was attracted and much

Returned to Hood River
Mrs. Phillip Carroll, nee Frances'
Nelson, returned to her home in Hood
Hood River yesterday after several
weeks visit in this city at the home
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. II. A.
Nelson.

Baby contest started at the
Hub Theatre Saturday night
with 10 bouncing brilliant en
trants. By tonight at least five
more entries will be recorded
and the entry list will close
Wednesday. There will be be
tween 15 and 20 in the contest
when it once gets started in full
swing.
Those 'who were on the screen
the opening night will have a
slight advantage over the later
contestants. The early starts are
generally the winners, and the
babys who gets the $10 cash
prize will receive something
worth working for. The other
prizes are worth going after, too,
the second being a $10 baby
carriage and the third a baby's
dress, easily worth $10. There
r.re 10 prizes in all, so most of
the contestants will receive
something, besides the wide pop
ularity that the contest will
bring them. A crowded house '
