Returned from Quartxville
J. A. McChesney returned Satur
day evening from the Quarrzville
mine, where re spent three weeks
looking after liis ten mining proposi
tions. He is greatly enthused over
the prospects and believes the mines
will be heard from. Several men are
in now and others will follow to
spend the winter. There are three
small mills of four, two and one
stamp capacity, which win be ma as
soon as there is water for the pur
pose. - . . v
Albany's First House
At Dugan & Denny's today was
seen a picture of historical interest
in oil painting of Albany's first
building, which vras at the store to be
framed. It is owned by Mrs. Smead
wife of the nun who erected the
building, a log cabin, at the site of
Hotel Revere, at First and Ellsworth
streets. It was painted by Lillian
Howe. Beside it is a small stream.

Miss Moore, daughter of Rev. Jas.
Moore, of the M. E. church, after a
visit with her folks yesterday returned
to Salem to resume her studies in
Willamette University. Having be
