The Democrat disagrees with him. Fol lowing the same idea one can declare that everything is a blessing that oc curs, the murders of the world, a reign of theft in a city, etc. GotI doesn't do things that way. Men arc free agents, with evil in their hearts. and so long as they depend upon themselves are going to do the things that work for evil from the huge Eu ropean war down, and that accounts for the present unholy times. INTERESTED IN HEALTH. The U. S. government in a bulletin advises people to walk for their health. Uncle Sam is gradually reach ing out into all departments of activities, taking an interest just like a human being in the things that go to make a better citizenship. For some time he has been trying to help the babies. Now he is interested in health matters, and has decided that walking is the proper thing Well, walking is good, deep breath ing is fine, and other things there are The truth is different people nee J different things. One person need; company and sport connected with the exercise, and others can go it alone. Along with it all it is a good think to keep the mind clear and wholesome. To do this one needs tc eat temperately, the proper food, drink plenty of water, sleep sufficient ly and keep the body and life clean SHOULD BE HUMANE. No matter what crime Hooker had committed he should have been treat ed humanely by his captors, not roughly. Even in war it is customary to do this, and the wounded soldier of the enemy is treated just as wei! as the soldier of the captor. No of ficer has a right to take the law in his hands and mete out justice ac cording to his personal ideas. In civ ilized America we should be careful how we act in matters of the charac ter of the Hooker tragedy. A BIG TRAGEDY EVENT Distance makes a great difference in how a matter is viewed. Albany people hardly realized that this cily was the center of a tragedy th-t was attracting intense interest all over the state. Even up in Eastern Oregon the daily papers used full page head lines and big body type to tell of the affair. CALL FOR GREEKS. Oregon Greeks have ben called to war. They are- wanted under their colors in Europe, ready to meet the demands of the war exactions. Some will go and some will not Most of these men came here to get away from militarism, wanting to be in a land of the free, not in a land of war. They will naturally prefer to remain here to going to their former home and stand the chances of being shot down. Those determined to re main here should declare their inten tion in a legal manner. Special Train OREGON ELECTRIC RAILWAY Will leave Salem, tomorrow (Satur day) night at 8:15, arriving Albany 9 p. m., for the accommodation of Al bany people. H. S. LOGAN, Agent. Wonder that the bones of Alexander, Julius Cae sar and Napoleon Bonaparte do not arise in consternation at some real war records. Can any one figure out an end with the present animus operating.
