THE CIRCUS.
There are shows and shows, but.
among them all the circus ranks first
just as a show. It has a hold on the
public that grips through the years.
Seasons come and go, likewise the
circus, with its old and new things
also the people in droves. It is ir
resistible as a drawing card. Big
flaming bills tell of things in exag
gerated language, many of them ab
solutely impossible; but they grip us
and we go. No matter how many
times we have seen the same things
we go again. No matter how severe
we are sometimes in our criticism the
next time we go again, just as soon
as if we had exalted the circus to the
skies. Some circuses are good and
some are near-good; but it is pretty
near alt the same, just so it is a cir
cus. There is a circus spirit to the
business that brings as before the
ring. Every community needs a cir
cus once in awhile. It is worth the
price every time, presenting a change
in the monotony of life. Besides the
entertainment there is an education
al side to the circus, and one can
learn much in human lift and brute
life.
HOME TRADING.
1. Your home merchant can dup
licate the prices made by any respons
ible concern anywhere on gece of
equal quality, in the same quantities
and on the same basis of delivery and
payment,
2. " Yon can examine your purchas
es in to. home stores and be assured
of satisfaction before .i.vestint y v.ir
money.
3. VoJr home mer:hants are al
ways tu 1 and willing to ma!;. iv-ht
any error rr any defective article
pnrch:ed.
5. Your home merchants help
make a good local market for every
thing you have to sell, and that mar
ketmore than any other factor
gives your land its present value.
6. Your home merchants are your
good friends, ever ready to extend
a helping hand in time of need.
7. If this community is good
enough for you to live in and make
your money in, it is good enough to
spend it in.
8. The best citizens in this com
munity are those who believe in and
practice home patronage. Be one of
the best.
9. The merchants in the distant
city give you nothing valuable that
the home merchants cannot give you
and the former cannot and will not
do for you many things the latter do
gladly. "
v 10. Every dollar kept in circula
tion in this community helps increase
property values. Every dollar sent
out of this community that could as
well be spent here hinders the wheels
of progress and helps build up some
other community at your expense.

MISFITS
During the past few days there was
a good deal of Interest in the odd
answers of students in the eighth
ijrade examinations. Back East re
cently a boy was asked to name the
even lights of history. He answer
ed: Noah's ark, the Israelites, Mos
es when the light went out, the light
of other days, Joan of Arc, Napo
leon's light infantry, and the House
of a Thousand Candles.
When a wise man has said enough,
he puts the lid on. There are others.
The bright author no longer uses
the midnight oiL He can get a better
stuff than that.
The U. O. recently gave a good
ly mesh. Here's something else,
that's easy: Half a teaspoonful of
round black pepper, one teaspoonful
it brown sugar and one tablcspoonful
of cream. Mix and place on a plate
r saucer.
The above four misfits were fur
lished by a First street man, who
doesn't forget his neighbors. Good
'una for this coL are always ap.
Big red lemonade, of course.
Mr. E. arrived this morning with
his trunk.
