The Democrat take pleasure in using its best efforts to help promote it, one of the things that is doing much to put ginger into the business affairs of the city and keep the commercial wheels going healthily. It it certainly proving a stimulus to trading affairs. It has been started for the benefit of the farmers of the turrounding country, it being well known that everything that helpt them helps everybody else Hence it will mean much to people generally. If it brings a large crowd here it will also be a good arrange ment for the business houses of the city. It is noted far and near that Albany has the best stores of any city in the valley, establishments that have created a wide confidence in the integrity of our merchants. With tuch establishments always doing the fair thing there is absolutely no excuse for a Linn county man or woman to tend to Shears Sawbuclc & Co. or any one else for mail or express orders. We have the goods here, the fit, the size wanted, the article before your eyes, just the way it ought to be. Life is too short to spend it leaping in the dark. It it business to see what you are doing when you buy goods. , . . THE ROAD TO SUCCESS. The following from the Big Broth erhood Farm Bulletin, published by Prof. Lyon, of Lebanon, it so full of good sense we give it a place in the Democrat: Genius has been defined as the capacity for hard word. The boy who plugs along steadily may not have acquired this habit and consequently he goes a long distance around to achieve hit end. Gen ius it not to much the capacity for intense work. A world's call of the greatest, men, will show at once that they had this capacity for intel lectual concentration to a remarka ble degree. Thomas A. Edison, inventor, is probably one of the most conspicuous examples of this power of thought concentration. Wiien a great idea is on his mind he is so oblivious to all outside things, that he is scarcely conscious of what he eats or whether he eatt at alt Moreover, he is capable of sustaining this intense concentra tion of thought for a long period of time. Sometimes for hours and ?iys he eats, sleeps and dreams, with the idea until it hat found birth in his mind. "I hardly know whether. I am in the living world or not," he confesses. Napoleon had the capacity for intellectual concentration, for it is said, while sitting on horseback he could work out a most strategic prob Ion, and while thus thinking he for got hit surroundings and officers and soldiers. He could even in the midst of a battle, with the shot and shell screaming around, lose himself, so completely in deep concentration of thought that he was totally oblivious to all danger."
