    liEMOCBATIt, AWAKE.
In another column will be found the call
issued bj the democratic county central
committee for the county convention. The
primary meetings are to be held March
.'ilit and the county convention on April
4'.h. It is highly important thit democrats
hould initiate tb-ir work in behalf of
eound principlet at once. The democrat
In each precinct should eelect their round
erf and beit men for delegate! Every
precinct ihould bs fully represented.
Elect only those ai delegate who can
attend. It proiies be few in the con
vention. The county committee has
recommended, 'and wisely we think,) that
in the nomination of candidates for county
offices the balloting should be vive voce.
This is the most democratic, the most
honest, the fairest, and speediest way of
voting. A convention thus conducted wil'
never have to answer for the bad faith of
any individual dslegate who might see fit
to vote other! than the way be may
have nromiaed. A full attendance at the
primaries should tie secured. L'jt every
democrat from now on make it a point to
urgo all democrats to attend the primaries.
The democrats must be bold and aggress
ive. They have it in their pjwer to win
the election in June. If every democrat In
the county docs bis full duty the party vill
win. Carelessness and indifference will
bring defeat from the result of which it
would take yesrs to recover. The demo
cratic party baa been in power in me
'i,mlmng?"?"f
from to Vi'tft, and while It H (rue tlttl
some mis lakes hare been made during U'.at
time, no county in the state has been so
wisely, and economically managed as has
Linn county been, and the democrats are
justly proud of such recorJ. The party
has, at no time, endorsed or justified mis
takes, but has always taken the lead to
rectify them. Probably no party in any
county in any state that has been in un
interrupted power for f years can snow as
T3T
As was predated a few days ago in the
columns of the pemooiat, tna populisi
county convention set down with much
emphasis and vigor upon tha eld pioneer
leaders ui tne party. Inn prediction was
made upon disclosures mads by an enthu
siastic populist to a democratic friend.
That this cunningly devised scheme was
carried out to a dot needs no better proof
than tne proceedings of the convention
itself. When sucn old pioneer leaders as
l)t Ikndrii, Jnhn Iiryant, J M Marks, 15
Davis, A Jack Adams, K II lien'-on and
nun of such ability as C B Montagu were
laid on the shelf with a heavy thud to take
up such new and largely unknown men as
W M Roberts, A Luell ing. John Cart
wr'ght, F M Klzer, (who had to be vouched
for before the convention wou'd believe in
his conversion to populism,) Jacob Clem.
W F Chase and lr Prill, it nta no
further proof that the result of the co&
vention waa the expected outcome of the
scheme which the populist disclosed to Ids
friend U-fore the meeting of the conven
tion.
