The Statesmen recently fcnve the fol
lowing sketches:
A ltlsvins One of Linn county's rep
resentatives in the house is A Blevins,
who is a native of Kentucky, born in
Clay county in that state on October 27th,
1837. liis father removed to van lmrsu
county, Missouri, in 1841, residing there
nine years, lie then set out lor Oregon,
in ISjO, crossing the plains with an ox
team. His name was Isaac Illevins, and
he settled in Linn county, on the Cala
pooia.nbout soven miles south of Albany,
The subject of our sketch remained at
home until of nee. He then went to
California and engaged in mining for a
year, returning to Jackson county, where
lie was interested in mining and stock
raising for a couple years. I'"rom there
Mr Blevins went to Idaho and followed
minim! for six years in that territory
and British Columbia, lie then returned
to Linn county and was married 111 Sep
tember, I87O, to Lurinia M Muxey, of
th At county, after which he purchased
a farm about seven miles south of Albany
mid a mile and a half west of langent.
Mr and Mrs Blevins have a family of hve
children living, twodead. They resided
on the farm up to two years ago Inst full,
when lliey went to tne town 01 langent
to live. While Mr lllovius was on the
farm he was at various times, for about
six years all together suoerintendent of
the Albany Farmers' Company ware
house, and all the time Bince he took up
his residence in the town he has occupied
this position. Mr Blevins represented
Linn county in the legislature of 1887.
He was again elected, on the democratic
ticket, last June.
W F Elmore is a member of the Linn
county delegation, and is a democrat.
He was born in Jefterson county, East
Tennesea, Feb 4, 1860,where he remained
until March, 1878, when he came to Ore
gon and settled at Brownsville, Linn
county, residing there until September,
1882. when lie removed to Umatilla
county and enguged in the stork business
on nutter creek, this is now in morrow
county, near Heppner. Mr Elmore was
there six years, when he returned to
Brownsville, and lias since resided mere.
He married at Brownsville January 1st,
1882. Mrs Louisa Carotin, and thev have
one child living and one deceased. Mr
Elmore had a farm near Brownsville, but
has lived in the town the past two years.
He has been president of the Brownsville
citv council, and is a member of the A O
U W. and Grange. Representative E.-
more is a member of tlie standing com
mittees on engrossed nina ana msnu
