by dividing the state Into two districts,
east and west. This would fill up the
fourteen delegates to which the state U
entitled. How will this affect the election
of presidential electors In that state? It Is
clearly to be seen that while a state may
be republican, some of Its congressional
districts may be democratic. The First
Second, Eight and Tenth districts have
uniformity returned democratic majorities
at all five elections held sine iSSi. Tne
sixth and seventh dlsti lets have gone dem
ocratic at four out of the Inst five elections
The Eastern district has been Infallibly
democratic for years. These seven dis
tricts may be relied upon to elect demo
cratic electors. The Third, Fourth
Eleventh, Twelfth, and Western district are
reliably republican. From this It appears
that democrats are safe in seven districts
and the lepublicans safe In five. The Fifth
and Ninth are doubtful. They have gone
democratic at fourout of the five elections
since iSSj. In the Fifth the chances favor
the democrats. The Ninth will most
likely go republican. From this it will
appear that democrats are likely to elect
eight and republicans six of the elections
In that state.
