Galveston, Tex, June aG Daring the prevailence of a severe storm this afternoon lightening struck and exploded the powder houses of the American Powder Company containing 2000 keg ol powder. The con cussion caused the Hazard, Dupont and Laf lin & Kaud powder houses to explode, although these powder magazines were located near Eagle Grove, four miles from the city. The shock of the exoloslon caused the houses to rock and sway in the city as if in the throes of an eartl qu-ikc. Glass was broken, doors were flung open, plaster fell from the walls, goods came tumbling down from the shelves and the people were badly frightened. Where the powder houses stood there Is not a vestige of ihe building left and the hole in thegroand is 120 feet in circumference and twen:y-five to thirty in depth. A Ills Lumber Fire.
