Syrup"
Two Oregon Mi'mmis. Monday
afternoon and today a steady stream of
visitors climbed the Pendleton Savings
Bank stairs and tramped Into the oflice of
Drs Stubbs and Morrow. The objecti of
attraction were two very singular pect
mens secured by Dr Morrow In a hunt for
relict at an old Columbia river Indian
eravevard.
One It the body of an old man.catnplete
lv inummliii-d by the drying action of the
saml In which It was Duuea. ine Doay is
veritably twisted Into a bust, and the atll
tude ot the llmbs.as well as the expi cssioii
rf the face, which Is one of dumb and ab
ject misery, indicate that the untortui.ute
died in great agony and was buried in the
ame position lie ntd assumed vviu'n re
lieved by death. The leus are doubled
nearly to the breast. The left arm n ache
under the riulit lee and to the shoulder,
where it meets the other arm, the hamU
beine clasped In seeming supplication for
relief. The flesh Is dried to the bones.anu
the enllre body Is In a state ot perfect
preservation. Xo clothing remains ixccpt
a pair of old-style raw-hide moccasins,
which cover the feet. On the whole the
curio is certainly interesting, not only be
cause of Its peculiar preservation lrom
decay, but from the altitude. The man
wn evidently very o)d. Tiie scalp Is par
tially covered with hair, part of which It
giny, and the teeth are those of an aged
person.
The oliur person Is the body of a child
te ven or eight years old.slmilai ly presei y.
eu, and wrapped In calico ciDin. under
neath the clothing, on the breast, was found
a deck of playing cards. A bow and arrow
and a whip were wrapped on one side ol
the body, and a bunch ot white riuuon
decorated the breast.
The doctor was offered and refused $500
loathe two specimens. I'endletou lv. O,
G. Gloger, Druggist, Watertown,
Wis. This is the opinion of a man
who keeps a drug store, sells all
medicines, conies in direct contact
with the patients and their families,
nnd knows better thnn anyone else
how remedies sell, and what true
merit they have. He hears of all
the failures and successes, and' can
therefore judge: "I know of no
medicine for Coughs, Sore Throat,
or Hoarseness that had dime such ef
fective work in my
Coughs, family as lloschee's
Sore Threat, Genuan Syrup. Last
winter a lady called
Hoarseness, at my stoie, who was
suffering from a very
severe cold. .She could hardly talk,
and I told her about German Syrup
and that a few doses would give re
lief; but she had no confidence in
patent medicines. I told her to take
a bottle, and if the results were not
satisfactory I would make no charge
for it. A few days after she called
and paid for it, saying that she
would never be without it in future as
a few doses h ad g iven her relief. ' '
