The Champion Peach Tree. W. S
Horton. a Benton county farmer and fruit
grower who has been in Pendleton for
several weeks past, claims the champion
peach tree of Oregon. It was started in tne
oichard from a slip five years ago. The
third ear a bushel of fine peaches were
gathered, the f urlh two bushels and a half,
and this vear the limbs were loaded down
with the fruit, it being necssary to prop

A Fruit Orchard. Mr. Hi. Khun, of
Waterloo, was in the city today. Mr.
Klum moved to that city and is now en
gaged in setting out 3000 fruit trees for
Weatherford & Kay, of this city and
Salem, who will soon have one of the
finest fruit orchards in the valley. It
will consist of a variety of trees, but
mosll prunes.
Tim Chami-ion Cow. Jos -Wood, of
Woods, Oregon, has the champion eating
cow in the United States. While camped
in Mr Wood's camp ground this cow
broke into a store tent and devoured the
following articles. One bushel of pota
toes, one ond one-half bushels of oats,
twenty pounds of beans, three pounds of
dried peaches, twenty pounds of flour.six
pounds of rice nnd five pounds of sugar.
The Markets.-Wheat Is now quoted In
this city at 62 cents, with a lower tenden
cy, unt?, governed hy local markets
mostly, are gjlng the other way. 45 cents
is paid for them ill bulk and 52 cents sacked.

Some Money Lost. Last evening while
collecting some freight bills J. F. Hail.in
some manner, lost $15, in two bills, just
where or how he Hoes not know. Any
merchant or other person having found
