The democratic central committee for the
state of Oregon, assembled at Salem on the
19th day of March, 1S90, bas appointed Port
land as the place and Thursday, the 24th day
of April, 1S90, at the hour of 1 1 o'clock in the
forenoon, as the time for holding a convention
for the democratic party of the state of Oregon
for the purpose of nomiuating candidates for
the offices of congressman, governor, judge of
the supreme court, secretary of state, treaurer
superintendent of public instruction, state print
er, and district officers to be voted for at the
approaching June election, and to transact
such further business as may properly come be
fore the convention. Th: representation will
consist of 193 delegates, apportioned among
the several counties of the state as follows:

crevasses at Raleigh, La., and Offutt's
.Mis., are uieiy to attect seriously rail
roads In their respective vicinities. Offutt's
crevasse is now 500 feet wide, and unless
closed very soon the crevasse will flood a
large portion of Washington, Sharklcy an d

Blair Bill Defeated.
Washington, March 20 The third read
ing of the Blair educational bill was defeated
n the senate, by 37 to 31.
The senate proceeded to vote on the third
reading and engrossment of the bill. When
ihe vote was concluded and it was known ii
had resulted against the bill, Blair changed his
vote from aye to uo, so as to make a motion to
reconsider. The result was announced, yeas
31, nays 37,
