Randall is a very 6ick man, and has not been
able to leave his bed for a month. His son
said last evening that there is not the slight
est probability that he will be able to attend

tions of the session at all.
Two Rail Smugglers,
Fort Townsend, Nov. 26, Alfred Tow-
ers and J F McComber, smugglers captured
in Whatcom county with fifty pounds of smug,
gled opium, had a preliminary examination
to-day. Towers was released orf $100 cash
bail, and McComher was held in 8300 bonds

of A Alficri, one ofihe Italian woodchoppers
who, with ethers, w as struck bv the cyclone
on Hood's mountain. The body was impaled
on the broken limb of a tree ten yards from
where the camp had neen and had evidently
been hurled through the air by the wind.

San Francisco, Nov, 26. The trial of the
suit brought by Charles Frankenthal cgainst
the Southern Pacific Railroad Company to re
cover $50,097 was begun to-day. The plain
tiff sets forth that on the i8thof last February
he purchased from the company a first class
ticket for Chicago via (Sacramento and Port
land. He boarded the train at Oakland and
had gone as far on his journey as Suisum, be
tween here and Saciamento, when the conduc
tor, after examining the ticket for which he
had paid $97 50, put the same in his pocket
and forcibly ejocted the plaintiff from the car
because plaintiff would not sign his name to
the ticket as requested to by the conductor.

formed in tais city which proposes to heat all
buildings wiih steam for a distance of two
miles through the business portion of the city.
A number of the most prominent business men
of the city are behind it. Contracts for three
blocks ol buildings are secured. 1 he new
company will put in a one hundred and twenty
