LOCAL jlECORD. Work Stopi"K1. The Salem .Smtsmait in mentioning the fact that work had been Hepped on the O. P. Extension with the xception of a few Chinamen, tllus plainly aye: " That the obstruction to progress in building the road at the present time in caueed by the attachment which aic hanging over a large amount sf property aid supplies which belong to contractors There eeems te be an unfortunate fatality in the way of that road being built with any degree of rapidity. Every year some thing occurs whereby half the best work ing season is wasted, and then just aliout the time a good force of men is secured, the contractors fail, lawsuits are com menced, the men thrown out of employ ment, and there Is Jesse to pay all around. Everybody in the valley has a warm side for the O. P. railroad In a business way, and it it really unfortunate that its com pletion across the mountains should be re tarded by so many untoward circum stances." The W.I. R. Co. Recently the Demo crat published an item from the East Ortgonian in which that paper said that several young men representing the Wrought Iron Range Co. were doing Uma tilla county, and that they were sharpers and swindlers. The Democrat asked for a report from some hore who had bought ranges when the young men were in the Valley, and Mr T II Bowman, of Benton county answers the request and desires us to state that he bought one of the ra ig paying $73 for it, that he considers it the finest thing he ever saw, and though the price was high, his wifi says she wouldn't part with it for twice the money ; that the young men were honorable in all their dealings with him. The Dkmocrat is same like the E. O. It likes to get a chance to pitch Into itinerants who take trade from home merchants ; but we try to be honest and gladly give Mr. Bowman's view of the matter, which In fairness the E. ). might well publish. One Veiw Or It. The Corvallis Titnes man who was in the city vhen the O'Delt Cameron race was run, figures It out as follows, by the way not correctly, for there was no forfeit made, we are in formed: A number of Corvatllsltes drove to Albany to sec the foot race between Cameron and C,Dcll. It was tame. The latter come out about 15 feet ahead in the race, but the former pocketed the money. O'Dell was satisfied with the fine oppor -tunity to show his shape and Cameron seemed to be satisfied with the forfeit. Specimens Mr. D D Prettyman the well known wheat collector hat been 1 n the city getting cereals. Any thing left at the Oregon Land Company office wilt be taken care of and sent where it will do good. Our farmers should come to the front in this matter. Linn is a great county and should be represented. New Mining Co. Articles of incorpor ation were filed with the secretary of state The Golden mining company of Albany, Or., capital stock $1,000,000, divided into one million shares of the value of $1.00 each.
