yesterday's election are too incomplete to de
termine the exact membership of th mictirn
I tional convention.
1 he returns, as far as received, indicate that
the contest was very close with the chances in
favor of the democrats by a narrow majority.
The labor member from Jefferson county may
have the casting vote. , '
Seattle, May 15. The returns of yes'.er
day's election are by no means complete but
enough is known to warrant the statement that
the constitutional convention will be s fely re
publican. It is estimated here that there will
be loity lour republicans to thirty one demo
crats in the convention-

company for r'amages came up this morning,
and the court denies the motion for judgement
on the pleading and want 01 reply. atkinds
claims he was precipitated to the ground at the
town 01 L.eban..n, while attempting to get aboard
a train belonging to the defendant, by reason
of a short turn in the sidewalk, at which place
there was no light, and he sustained several
broken ribs and loss of valuable time

The Walking BUtch.
San Francisco, May 15. The six days go
as you please race ended at 10 o'clock this
evening, The following "peds" were on the
tiack at the finish: James Albert is "winner,"
score 533 miles; Gus Guerrere, 525; Sport
Camp-ana, 349; Oofty Goolty,2i 1; Ciozier,455;
Peterson, 400; Skinner, 268, Albert received
60 percent, and Guerrere 40 per cent, of half
of the gate receipts.
Will Not BeiHcmoved.
San Framcisco, May 15. A special to the
Examiner from Washington says presidential
postmasters will be allowed to serve out their
four year terms from the date of confirmation by
the senate. Postmaster general Wanamaker
made this plain to-day by stating that "the
president is not making removals except lor
cause." lie added that to displace a postmaster
before his term expired would be removal.
Washington, May 15. Marella Hermann,
of Oregon, has been appointed chief of a divi
sion in the pension office.
