A Fire at Sea.
Plymouth, May 12, The steamer Rnria.
from New York May 2 for Hamburg, which
arrived to-day, reports that the cotton in her
aner nora spontaneously ignited on the night
(if the 8th inst. The fire burned firl K
was quenched after five anxious hour.-, during
which everything had been got in readiness to

among the passengers, who remained on deck
for forty eight hours. Through the efforts to
quench the fire the cabins were flooded and
two thirds of the passengers luggage was spoiled

fested with a gang of burglars, shoplifters and
passers of counterfeit money. The shoplifters
are bold, doing their work in daytime. Three
are under arrest, and the police are on the
track of others. Most of the counterfeit money
is in ten dollar bills, made in 1875, bearing
the signature of John Allison, register of the
treasury, and John C New treasurer, and num.
