Two cypress trees cut near the Wckiva, Fla., shingle mill produced 510,000 shin gles. One of the natural curiosities at Antelope Creek in the Butte Creek Valley, about a mile from the residence of W. J. Bray, is a cave which contains superior ice all the year round. A full blooded negro testified in a rich Irish brogue before a Brooklyn court the other day. He was born in Ireland. A curious local name for a plant ls"John go to-bed-at-noon," applied in England to the yellow goat's beard, which opens at four and closes just before twelve o'clock. The type writing industry has developed into a great business. There are 30,000 instruments sold every year, and pretty type writers are to be numbered by the thousands. A flowering plant has r.ever been found within the Antarctic circle.but in the Arc tic region are 763 kinds of flowers.but Iheir colors are not oright or varied as those of warmer regions. A Milan newspaper, the Sxolo, is pub lishing the Bible in 210 halfpenny parts of eight pages each and 900 wood cuts. This is the first enterprise of the kind in Italy, and it has already achieved enormous success. The plant from which licorice Is raade is found on the shores of Lake Erie and farther west. It is called glycyrrkiza. It grows very erect, to the height of about four or five feet, and has few branches. It bears a flower formed like that of a pea,but of a violet or purple color. The root in its raw state is well known as the licorice root of commerce. It attains a length of sev eral feet, and is often an inch in diameter.
