Seventy-third street, which was purchased with the proceeds of the General's book, and cost complete, I am told, something like 8200,0000. It is a big house, with room enough for Mrs Sartoris and her children, who will probably spend much of her time there in the future The sons, too, will be there with their families from time to time, as Mrs. Grant means the house to be the home and centre of the entire family. The first guest in the new house will be the wife of President-elect Harrison, who is an old friend of Mrs. Grant, and even before her husband was nominated promised to come to the new house for a long visit as soon as it was done. Originally the intention was simply a reunion of two quiet elderly friends, but matters now stand Mrs, Grant will probably throw open her doors and invite the great world to meet the new first lady of the land. Mrs, I.evi I'. Morton, who has a handsome house on Fifth avenue, three doors from the one that was occupied through the campaign by the Re publican national committee, will try to induce Mrs. Harrison to be her guest during a portion ol her stay. They have never met, but have been vigorously corresponding during the cam paign and have exchanged photographs. Dealers In nlltheUiMtimprovoil Pianos Organ., Swine Mn-hiiioi, (inns. A dispatch from Troy New York says: There are already indications that the new year will usher in hard times for ware earners The first notes of the storm come from the direc tion of Cohoes and the Mohawk valley, where the knittingmill owners have announced a re duction of 1 5 per cent in wages, beginning Janu ary ISl. 1 here is very little doubt that other mill men and factory men. following the examnle of the knit-goods manufacturers, will soon cut wages. This, it will be noticed, comes in the face of the ante-election promises that the election of Har rison meant high wages. Thus does the campaign of education go right along. The protected manufacturers now pro pose to make back all the money they had to contribute to elect Harrison and they propose to take it out of the wagesofthelabor people. Look Here.
