SURVEYORS
ARE CLAMS
Junctiou Times: Another surveying
crew unloaded their baggage here
Thursday morning and at once com
menced preparations for work. Tho
crew consists of 14 men, all from Sin
Francisco, under charge of C. P. Goerl
of New York. Office headquarters have
been secured in the Al Johnson annex
and the necessary teams at the livery
stable. Arrangements and engage
ments are made for three weeks.
The head men decline to talk. One of
the men said they were S. P. surveyors
and would first run a line to Monroe.
Some are of the opinion that the line
fromCorvallis will be built, bur that line
was surveyed and right of way deeded
25 years ago.
Borne are ot the opinion tnat tne are
here in the interest of Hill. Others
claim that they represent the San
Francisco Electric company and will
run a survey to the coast either via
Lake Creek or Elmira. These 'acts are
given for what they are worth. The
manager said they were on a secret
mission and then shut up like a clam.
SPRINGFIELD'S
CELEBRATION.
ARRIVED
FROM PANAMA
Mr. Frank Patterson arrived in Al
bany this noon on the Shasta, from
ranama, joining nis wire, Mrs. liva
Patterson, of the Hamilton store, and
children. He came to San Francisco by
steamer, the trip not aareeing with
him, and he was somewhat ill upon ar
rival. The hot Panama weather offer
ed a stricking contrast to our cool dim -ate.
Mr. Patterson was with the gov
ernment for fourteen months, a resi
dent of Panama for almost two years.
The governmeut is pushing the work on
the canal and expects to have boats go
ing through in 1914. The best adver
tised Oregon section on the Canal Zone
it, Roseburg, which has done special
work down there. ,
MR. STRUBLE
RESIGNS
The celebration at Springfield yester
day in honor of the completion of the
bridge and roads into that city, was a
big affair, the largest crowd being
present in the history of the city. The
speakors were Judge ilimmick, of
Oregon City, who gave a warning
against inflated prices for land, putting
it beyond the reach of common neonle
with $1000 to spend, quoting the present

A Sheriff's Sale.
All the properities of the Cascade
Petroleum Co. consisting of oil and gas
leases and agreements, at the court
house this afternoon were bid in by C.
E. Sox for the judgement creditors, In
the suit of C. H. Vhers for $331.40
The other judgement creditors are Geo.
Taylor for $439.98 and Everett & Kyle
for $263, who it is reported have com
bined in the management of tho prop
erties, also having bought the machin
ery on the ground.

Judge Stewart, of Toledo, was in the
cit today advertising the Lincoln
county fair, to be held at that citv

of the products of Lincoln county there

Manager Struble placed his resigna
tion at the disposal of the board, and on
motion, the resignation was accepted,
witn the provision that Mr. Struble be
requested to remain until October first.
It has been in the hands of the secre
tary four months. Mr. Struble has'
other things in view.
The Secretary was directed to draft
suitable resolutions of endorsement of
Mr. Struble in commendation of his
labors.
It was ordered that new contracts
for subscriptions De dated A a;. 1st and
that the committee make an effort to
collect the first mont i's subscription. .

Mr. George Strine has begun the
erection or three two story cottages on
j his property at the corner of Ellsworth

of K. B. Montague, consisting of 54
feet on Ellsworth street and 84 on 4th
street. The cottages will have a front
age of 19 1-2 f pet each, with' ten feet
between them, anJ will face on Fourth
street. There is a big demand for
such places for rental and Mr. Strine
Sroposes to assist Albany in meeting it.
Ie is an experienced builder, coming
here from Corvallis. He has had charge
of the construction of the new i evi
dences of W. F. Garrett and J. S.
Morgan. He likes Albany and is boost
ing m a practical way.
