E. H. Rhodes asked for privilege ot
erecting buildings on First and 2nd
streets. Referred to acting city re
corder. Marshal McClain was granted priv
ilege of being absent from Albany Wed
nesday night.
A resolution was passed authorizing
the recorder to draw warrants for all
officers on first of the month or quarter.
Recorder Thompson was granted leave
of absence until he completes his work
at Salem.
Mr. Pfeiffer moved that the matter
of the road across the Willamette bridge
be referred to the committee on public
property, street superintendent, and
city attorney for investigation.
Further time was granted in the
matter of the proposed hydrant system.
Councilman Hand moved that the
city recorder be directed to ask our
senators to support the bill doing away
with perpetual franchises. Carried.

esting thing in the local market. To
day they have been retailing for $1.20,
oeing two cents per pound, i ne cash
market price is about 80 cents.

Eggs have dropped again and are 22
cents.

The funeral of Mrs. Ackerman took
place yesterday afternoon at the fam
ily residence on the Salem road. She
leaves a husband and four sons, two re
siding in Salem, one in The Dalles, who
were present at the funeral, and an
other one, in Nebraska, who was una
ble to come.
Seeing Palestine.
The third series of Dr. Hill's pictures
shown at the U. P. church last night
by Mr. Day were greatly appreciated
by a large audience, the gallery being
filled as well as most of the auditorium.
The pictures shown were round about
Jerusalem, clear and suggestive.
