ing a collection of game for the Lewis
Clark fair.
Judge Geo. Blakely, of The Dalles,
a former Linn county man, passed
through the city this noon for Ashland,
where he will " assist in instituting a
new lodge of Elks, No. 944 in the U. S.
Rev. Louis Metayer and private sec
retary Fred Devine, left this noon on a
trin to San Francisco and other Cali
fornia towns. This is Rev. Metayer's
seventy-fifth trip to San Francisco

Wm. Chrisman, a young man who
came here from Gervais, while at the
i Russ House last night became inane
I and was taken charge of by Sheriff
White. He is a member of the K. of
P. and members here are looking after
the case. The lodge at Silver City JN ev. ,
of which he is a member, has been tele
graphed previous to having an examin
ation of him for insanity. He is better.
Two Horses Killed. '
G. W. Allphine,' of Syracuse precinct,
last evening was going home through a
field on a sled, when his horses became
frightened at some cows and ran away.
One struck a tree and was killed and
the other got loose and run upon a
barbed wire fence, receiving injuries
necessitating its being shot. Mr.
Allphine was not injured. . -

The Bank Robbery Case in Full
Blast.
The jury in the case of John Scott,
charged with attempted rape upon
Grace McElroy. an eleven vear old crirl
of Brownsville last June, came in with
a verdict at o:lo o clock last evening,
finding the defendant guilty as charged
in the indictment. The jury disagreed a
long time as to the extent of the verdict,
several being in favor of assault alone,
and, besides there was a dispute in the
evidence as to the age of the defendant
at the time, whether he was over or
under sixteen.
Friday at 9 o'clock a. m., was set for
pronouncing sentence upon the defend
ant. In the case of the state against John
Scott, convicted of attempt to commit
rape, the defendants attorneys announc
ed that they would ask for a new trial.
