Two Lacomb girls were teetering Thursday evening when one of them, Lena Fitzwater, fell off the board breaking one of her legs below the knee. A Friend of the Family was present ed at the opera house last night to a good sized audience, who had their lungs well exercised. The play is a con tinual round of funny complications in which everybody gets mixed, and made quite a hit. The cast is a strong one. Mrs. A. Tripp and daughter, Mrs. M. Gorman, of and near Lebanon, were taking a buggy ride on Thursday near Fry btation when their horse became frightened at the cars and ran away, throwing both ladies out. One of Mrs. Tripp's thigh bones was broken and she was considerably bruised. Mrs. Gorman was not injured. A Hallween Chicken-pie dinner wil be given by the ladies of the First M. El church at W. C. (Special.) A special from Lind, Wash., says the North Coast Limited on the Northern Pacific was wrecked near there this morning. Four cars were derailed, one passenger killed and several in jured. Jumped His Bail. Walla Walla, Oct. 29. (Special) The Circuit Court of appeals today af firmed the lower conrt sentencing Adam Schmidt to eight years imprisonment in the Federal Prison for naturalization fraud. Schmidt was out on $6, 000 bonds. The officers who went to notify him found he had disappeared several days ago.- . . . - A Big Wedding. London, Oct. 29. Pauline Astor, the only daughter of William Waldorf Astor, andf Captain Spender-Clay were married in St Margaret, Westminister at 1 o'clock this afternoon by the Bishops of London and Ripon and the Archdeacon of London. The presents received by the bride were valued at several hundred thousand dollars. Home Mission Day. St. Louis, Mo., Oct 29. A press telegram from General Kuroki's headquarters re ports that on Thursday the Japanese captured Waitaoshan after sharp fight ing. The attack began at 8 o'clock in the afternoon, the Russians retreating. The Japanese captured two machine- guns. At Port Arthur. Tokio, Oct. 28. It is reported that the Japanese opened a desperate gen eral attack on the eastern forts of the Keekwan group, north of Port Arthur, during the morning of Oct. 26, and si lenced the Russian batteries. A shell exploded the Russian magazines. Chairman Cowherd's Claims New York, Oct. 28. The Sun today says; Chairman Cowherd, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Committee, will soon issue a prediction that the Democrats are certain to carry 50 doubt ful districts, giving the party a clear working majority in the House of Rep resentatives in the Fifty-ninth Con gress. (Special) James Herron a prosperous farmer was driv ing to town this morning when he was shot in the head with a 22 rifle by Dean Dilly and Edwin Woodcock, the oldest aged only eleven. Tichenor met last night with the Albany lodge of Woodmen of the World, and arrange ments were begun for a three months campaign under Mr. Tichenor for new members, to end with a big meeting with Head Consul Falkenburg as the speaker. A. W. Bowersox, . president, Frank Toevs and Fred Blount vice presidents, L. L. Swan secretary and J. S. Lamar treasurer, were appointed a campaign committee. Two teams have been or ganized with L. Vierick on one side as captain and Gen Junkin and Frank Roe as assistants, tend C. S. Headley on the other, with J. W. Ellison and W. R.
