T. G. Hendricks and family of Eugene, D. Bristow and familv of Cottage Grove and Prof. H. T. Condon of the Moscow, Idaho, college, were in the city this afternoon on their way to Yaquina for their summer outing. ' Hon J. D. Matlock, of Eugene, passed through the city yesterday on his way home from Dawson, after an absence of two years, he came out by the way of Nome, Immediately upon his arrival he web united in marriage to Mrs. Sarah Durant. A Strange Career. ' Fifteen yearB ago JohnO. Loutsenhi zer, a prosperous farmer and veteran of the civil war, of Cameron, Missouri, took an odd notion into his heal to come to the Pacific coast, and with no apparent cause for it left his wife and family and came to Oregon. He took up a claim in the Alsea country and has since resided there most of the time until awhile ago, when became to Albany and has been residing with A. J. Hunt. He received a pension o! $30 and during the years that have passed has regularly sent moat of this home, but lie refused absolutely, though having a valuable farm in Mis souri, to return home, and threatened that if any of hia familycame here he would go to some other place where they could not find him. He was a member of the A. O. IT. W. and has kept up his dues in the Missouri lodge of which be is a past master workman. He has al ways been peculiar, but recently becom ing worse, members of the Albany A. O. U. W. investigated hie case, and instead of allowing him to be Bent to the asylum notified bis people of tho situation and Mr. and Mrs. Garrell, his daughter and eon-in-law, arrived in Albany this week, and yesterday started back for Missouri with hltn, it is to be hoped reconciled to his situatijn. Before going Mr. Lout senhizer, who owned 160 acres on the Alsea sold his place to an Albany firm for $125 in order to dispoBe of all his in terests here. The case is an interesting and romantic one. Another Fakir. The Ashland Tidinga says; The "bargain column advertising fakir, wbo made a good thing out of the newspapers along the line a few months ago, has been followed by another fakir who publishes a "romance" in the looul paper and works in local advertiser's names in it for so much a "work." JSuin erous papers will come out this week with a headline' leading suinething like this: "The Story of Uncle UoB'n,"which is a better story for the fakir who passeB cn with the proceeds, than it i for the newspaper man, the advertisers or the reader. ' Advertisers enouia keep tneir eyes open. Women Fihbmbn. But for the prompt lesponee of the women'e cc flee club this morning the nouie ana contents ot Mr. It. Morgan of East Albany would have been destroyed. The ladies fought like old firemen and the fire was extin guished before much damage was done. Pkachbs.
