The Salem Journal gives the following account of the accident, which happened at Jefferson: "The train was In full motion and VanRan Uu was between two cars examining the Hulk heads. A young gentleman who lied at this office this morning who had leen working in Portland for some time ys a physician in that city informed him ilore than a week since that there were wer 200 cases of small pox in that city at luiume ana mat mere were reasons to ar an epidemic. Our State President, Mrs A R RWgs has just returned from an extended "rip through Eastern Oregon, where she went to review the field, strengthen the Unions, and organize new ones. We hear of her from Echo, Wasco, Arlington and other places where she has planted the white, ribbon. She has been graciously and glad ly received everywhere and we are sure her visit will result in much good. She will soon begin work in the Valley and we trust the good women will give her all the assistance in their power, and thus further the good work. Thanksgivixo Social. A social will be held on Thanksgiving evening by the Albany W. C. T. U. to which the public generally, are cordially invited. It is ex pected that each member and as many friends as wish, will bring a thank offering in money. These contributions are to be handed In at the door. No stated amount has been asked for, each one gives as the heart prompts. A good program, literary and musical is being arranged, and in due tune will be published.
