LOCAL RECORD. Stole a Watch. About a week ago a man by the name of Smith living a few miles out from Harrisburg went to the feed and chop mill of Levi Douglas of that town to get some feed. While Mr Doug las was off in another part of the building Smith took a watch from the vest of Mr. Douglas which was hanging on the wall0 Smith gave the watch to an acepjaintanc and told him to keep it and pay him what he chose for it. He confessed that it was Douglar's watch. This acquaintance in stead of keeping tne watch took it to the jewelry store of G W Brandenburg and told that gentleman all about it, who in formed Mr Douglas. The next day Doug las swore out a warrant and had Smith arrrsted but before a preliminary trial could be had he escaped. Phil Walker, a young man about twenty years of age, was sitting on a stool handling a loaded shot gun. Another young man was standing near lilm and looking another way when the loud re port of the gun at his back made him turn instantly, when he was horrified to sec his companion fall over, the blood flowing from his head. The load of shot had struck the victim fairly in the head, going upwards, shattering it In a horiihle manner. A sur geon was sent for but the young man was dead In a few moments, fust how it hap pened is not known for certain, though it is supposed that while the stocK was resting on the Moor in a slanting manner the ham mer struck against something causing the discharge of the gun. This is the version of the accident as given us. No doubt it may be varied some when a tun report Is received of it. Young Walker resided with his parents and was well spoken of. Looks Like Gkokge. A great many people are wondering what Mr. Harrison looks like. The following from a Salem paper explains it so well that most Albany people will catch on immediately : "The facial resemblance between President-elect Harrison and ex-Congressman M. C. George, of Portland is said to be very marked. The only difference is in their height, Mr George being tall, broad chest- ed and stalwart, and inclined to be portly, while Gen. Harrison is said to be heavy-set and about medium height, iioth nave high foreheads and light complexions both are full featured and both have brown ish red beards and mustaches, worn in the same fashion. In the eyes the expression Is almost similar. Allow us through your paper to express our hearty thanks to the kind people of Albany, who to cheerfully rendered a helping hand during the recent severe and long siege of sickness In our family, and also for many donations received during said slckess, although we do not know In every case who were the donors. We con gratulate ourselves to know that our lot has been cast among a peop'e who know how to prove themselves friends indeed in time of need. May the good Lord bless and reward you all. J. B. and Lizzie T. Fisher. It is now very injudicious to disnla Chin ese pheasants. Our best hunters do not do tint even to tr eir best friends until they haye been thoroughly plucked. The Sequel. A few days ago we men. tioned a hunting expedition into the coun try by a New York drummer and two Al bany young men. Now comes the sequel- The drummer killed six birds. He took two of them to Portland with him. They were Chinese pheasant- . He showed thein promiscuously, as if I ie had done a big thing, and in the evening went to a ball and paid too much attention to another fellow's girl. The other fellow to get even being apprised ot the Chinese pheasants had tne drummer arrested and he was fined $8o and costs. The Albany boys, who led him hard chase for the game, are considerably elated oyer the joke. They only killed American pheasants! Letter List.
