Willamette Valley, Nov. 12th 4 pm. Willamette Valley, Nov, 24Lh 10 a m MU r I'm jolly and fat, though 1 Deodn't say that ; for a glance at my size and a look in my eyes, and you plainly can see there's no flies upon me. I'm a little bit short both ot breath end of hair, but from shoulders to knees you can see I'm all there. smile and I laugh, I joke and I chaff; I refuse to be sad and 1 never got mad. But you'd neversurmise where my happi ness lies, so I'll up and confass what you ; never could guess. A good thing to eat is always a treat, which will make you as sweet as OHr sugar eured meat, makes you feel 80 content with the money spent that you're bound to feel glad ; and you couldn't get mad though a man just ai thin as a rail or a pin was to pull at your nose or tread on your toes. If you're fat or your'e lean, if youi'e pleasant or mean, just give V. & T. a show to sell you right low, you will feel such a thrill of con tentment until you'll wish you were fat to enjoy more of that For the feeling's immense and you'll show your good sense by buying groceries, pro visions and crockery of W 4 T Wallace & Thompson's Fat Man, Flinn Block, Albany, Or. FAEUEK JONES' WISE SAYINGS. Almost kills no man. The rich widow's tears soon dry. A rich wife Is a source of quarrel. Liberal hands make many friends. Riches breed care.poverty is safe. Evil is soon done, but slowly mended. The upright never grow rich in a hurry. An evil deed has a witness in the bosom. Riches are often abuscd.but never refus ed. An ill tempered woman Is the devil's door nail. A clean hand moves freely through the land. A royal heart is often hid under a tat tered cloak. A fool is like other men as long as he is silent. It it hard to glean after a niggardly huc bandman. A man's character reaches ground before his person. The new Is always liked, though the old is often better. A man Is bound by his word, an ox with a hempen cord. Unworthy offspring brag the most of their worthy descent. He that performs his own errand saves the messenger's hire. An unpleasant guest is as unwelcome as salt to a sore eye. When everyone minds his own business the work is done. When the sword Is In the mouth you must caress the sheath. The mouse may find a hole,be the room ever so full of cats. The raven always thinks that her young ones are the whitest. Between evil tongues and evil ears, there Is nothing to choose. That which has been thrown away has often to be bagged for again. A bad wife wishes her husband's heel turned homewards, and not his toe. When lazy horses begin to start, old wo men to dance, and white clouds to rain, there Is no stopping them. TELEGRAPHIC NEWd Prominent Man Murdered. Wenon a, Ills., Nov. 12. A most blood curdling and atrocious murder was com mitted here early this morning. The city is in a fever heat of excitement over the murder of Peter Howe, a wealthy banker. and wife, aged 73 and 69. The cause -ol this terrible deed is attributed to petty spite on the part of Charles Burkhart. 1 he do mestic in the house, Sarah Richardson, a handsome lass of 19, and Burkhart's step daughter, had often been importuned to come and live with him, but she refused to do so, and he thought the Howes were at the bottom of her objections. lie therefore concluded to murder them.
