And this is Mr. Blaine's friend ! And this is the way Silver-tongued Tom Fitch lays ninety-nine per cent of the cost of making steel to the poor fcllcws who toil around the furnaces ! President Clevelanu's recent message has attracted attention in France, French newspapers are busy explaining to their readers that Canada is a large body of water tilled with valuable flsh.and that the quarrel turns upon the ownership of Three Mile Limit, an island which lies near the mouth of the River Montreal. bo far as the ordinary eye can see, it wduld appear as if there were no necessity to send any Democratic orators into any of the debatable States. A liberal outlay of money in the distribution of Mr. Blaine's two speeches on trusts will be about all that is required to re-elect the President. Oh, dear! The London Standard actual ly talks of going to war with the United States in case the treaty of 1818 is not ob served. Easy, brother, easy. The United States is a size or two larger than it was in 181 2, and we could swallow Canada at one bite if we were real hungry mad. BargaiBs! Hargains! 1 Bargains! ! He went to England .... aiiangciiienis io nave a steamer brought out, "the first of the fleet." W hen the depression of properties came down South.the plan went the way of a hundred others like it, or more ext-nsive. The steamer is laid up here, but as negotiations are pending for her purchase she will not probably long be idle. A Democratic Victory. New York, Sept. 13.
