Details of a ter- ible tragedy at Prairie Center reached tliis place to-day. A dance w as given by a number ot Norwegians. Whisky flowed freely, and all were more or less drunk. About midnight two young men got into a fight over a partner for a elance, aud one of them w as stabbed. The men present too k sides, and revolvers and knives wv-re used freely. There is considerable excitement over a reported case of smallpox in McMinnville. It ap pears that Charles Rynum, who lives in McMinnville. was taken sick on Monday last, and the doctors were called In, and after consultation pronounced it a case of smallpox. As to how or where Bynuni was exposed is not known. Precaution has been taken by the city authorities to prevent the spreading of the disease. No one is allowed about the premises except tne lamny and a nurse.who are not allowed to leave tne nouse. As the manner of Zly num's exposure to the disease is unknown, it Is feared that others were exposed in the same manner,but no new cases have devel oped as yet. The Wealth of Charles Crocker. San Fran-cisco, Aug. 17. The people here will naturally talk about the wealth of the late Charles Crocker. His property is estimated all the way from thirty to eighty millions. What it a'ciunlly is will perhaps never be known. It has' been said that Charles Crocker had organized a railroad trust so that his property would not be di vided, and at the head of this trust will be Col. Fred Crocker. This statement is scouted as wrong, and people who are sup posed to know declare that Charles Crock er some years ago deeded his property to his wife and children, nnd this would do away with the necessity of making a will.
