' Northern Pacillc Earnings. New York, Aug. 9. A detailed state ment of the Northern Pacific Company's operations for the fiscal year ended about a month ago has now been given to the di rectors. It shows up far better than was anticipated, even by insiders. After pro viding for operating expenses, interest on the company's . bonds, and every other charge for the year, they found that there remains a 'surplus of $518,000. Dynamiters. Ciiicagcv Aug. 9. Anther dangerous dynamite bomb was found this afternoon in a Wagner palace car, and if the thing had not been discovered before any passengers entered the car, there would probably have been a terrible wreck and great loss of life. The palace car was attached to the Michi gan Central "Cannonball" train, which left this city this afternoon and the machine was discovered by the porter an hour be fore the train pulled out. He called in an officer of the central detail and the police man picked it up carefully ana took n to tne station. The bomb was oval in shape and about the size of a baseball. It was topped with tin and on each end was a fuse. The head of a parlor match was placed near the fuse, and if the thing had roiled over or re- ' celvcd a slight kick, explosion ol the match would have followed, igniting the fuse. After removing the match head und fuse some of the dynamite was out of the bomb and testea, and found to be genuine mater ial and very powerful. The police have no clue.
