Nogales, A.T.,July2o, This section of the southwest is just now greatly inconven ienced by the unprecedented heavy continu ous rains and railroad washouts. All trains on the Southern Pacific are more or less de layed by washouts. Though trains have been kept moving by transferring passen agers, mail and express. There are some few washouts on the Sonora railroad, but transfers have been taken off and only day trains permitted to run. Through Mexico the rains have been the heaviest and most constant ever known, and in many instan ces great uatnnge nas been done. Tho X. P. New VoltKjuly 29. James McN'aught, formerly attorney of the Northern Pacific Railroad at Seattle, now general solictor of that company at St. Paul, is here with Thomas Ureenway, premier of Manitoba and attorney-general o that province, rela tive to the extension of a branch of the Northern Pacific to Winnipeg. McNaught says that the receipts of the Northern Paci iic are now over $100,000 per week more than for this time last year. The road is steadily making money and the cause of the increase in its receipts was its legiti mate growth of passenger and general freight business. DR. The record in dis tance for throwing a 16-pound hammer w as beaten this afternoon by Barry of the Cork ' Athletic Club. The distance throw was 122 feet b, inches. The best previous record was also made by Barry about twelve months ago in New York. The distance tnrown at that time was 121 feet n inches. Two Kansas Towns. St. Lot is, July 29. Mayor Price, of Woodsdale, Kansas, in his statement to Gov. Martin, with reference to the Stevens county war, states that when the news of the killing of Sheriff Cross and several ef his posse reached Woodsdale, it created wild excitement. A meeting was held and every- uuujr was m lavor 01 arming, proceeding to Hugotown and killing as many men as pos sible, and then burning the town in retalia tion, but wiser counsel prevailed. The Woodsdale peop le have sen for 100 Winchesters and a wagon load of amunition. and have picket ed sentinels for several miles around Woodsdale, w'th orders to fire upon any Hugotown man who tries to pass them. A Yonng Mardrrrr. Paris, July 29. Mrs. Siauzade.living on Rue de Bery, was awakened at an early hour this morning by loud screams. She hastened to her children's bedroom, from which the cries came and found her son Louis, aged 6 years.with a gash in his stom ach, the wound having been inflicted with a razor by his brother Alphonse aged S years. The mother screamed for assistance but before the neighbors arrived Alphonse had cut his own throat from ear to ear. He died soon after. Louis is in a precarious condition. Alphonse always hated his brother and tried to kill him twice before, once by driving a rail into his head with a hammer.
