Shorty, aliv erv stable keeper at Hugotown, gives the following particulars regarding a terrible encounter between Hugotown and Woods dale men in Stevens countv, where)- no less than seven men lost the'ir lives : Sam Robinson, city marshal of Hugotown, and M. Cook of the same place, went to the Dudley ranch near Pony creek, yeslerdav, accompanied by their wives, to look up some cattle which they were trying to buy. While taking dinner Deputy Sheriff Uart,a Woodsdale man,accompanied by five other Woodsdale men, rode up to the party and asked Robinson to surrender, as he had a warrant for his arrest, Robinson said he would go a short distance from camp.leav ing Cook and the ladies behind, and then give his enemies a chance to take him. He did so and on reaching a convenient spot both parties opened fire with the result that four Woodsdale men were slain. The other two fled to the strip and Robinson escaped without a scratch. Cook hastened to Hugotown and gave the alarm and soon an armed squad went to their assistance. Jennie Hamblett, 15 years old, has disappeared from home and no knowledge of her whereabouts can be obtained. Her mother is an Indian wo man.who has been active in religious work of different kinds. The girl has been an active member of the Salvation Army of late. When she left home on'last Tuesday she had $20. The father.a white man.weil respected in this communitv, is sparing no effort to find the girl. In Favorof McJlinnville. Salem, July 27. This afternoon Judge Boise decided the motion of plaintiff for a preliminary injunction in the case of Bird vs. the court of Yamhill county. The ef fect of the decision is to allow work on the new court house at McMinnville to nro- ceed. Judge Boise held that the provision of the removal act-limiting the cost of new county buildings to $45,000 is valid, but that the limitation of the taxing power for building purposes to 2 mills per annum is vum. Kinie's flour ing mill, situated on Yellow Hawk creek, one and a quarter miles from this city, bur ned this afternoon. The fire was caused by burning waste paper in the office stove, the flue being defective. The loss is $Sooo; insurance, 2000. Aberdeen-, Miss.July 27.(i-At Eden this morning Frank Guise, n negro, insulted Mrs. Ogert.during her husband's absence. Ogert, on returning, took a horse, hunted up Guise, and shot him dead. Two fiiends of Guise then attacked Ogort and behead ed him with an ax. Reprisals by the whites are now looked toi. Wahpeton, D. T.July 27. The body of L. S. Elmer, who crncly murdered pret ty Mary Korbel, Is suspended from the bridge over the Rois de sioux river. A masked mob of 1000 determined men over powered Sheriff Miller and bis deputy be fore daylight this morning, boke through the iaii c.i:cs, and took the murderer out. The mob was well organized, ana ncaacu bv resolute men o Wahpeton and Breck enridgo. The sheriff offered all the physi cal resistance his 260 pounds afforded, but did not attempt to shoot or tight, Dccause the mob were all bis friends, and he said the life of the murderer was not n orth the life of a friend.
