Secre tary Mize says his reports are of the most encouraging character. One from Mc Ilenry County yesterdrjr gave the names of twenty-five Norwegian i who had hith. erto been Republicans and whohaddeclar ed their intention of vo ing for the demo cratic ticket this year. A report frcm Will County gaye the mmo of forty-six Republicans in one town who have left the party this year. Twenty-four have be come Democrats and the rest Prohibition ists. The Democrats are feeling greatly encouraged over reports of this kind which are coming in every day. Why is it that the Democrat who has leit his party and declared in favor of Harrison is always away off some where else? lie is never here but like the milk-sick is over younder about 20 miles. Let the reader look around him in his own neighborhood and see how many democrats he knows who will vote for Harrison and then he wiil be better able to tell as to the truth of the "scores ol democrats who have left their party." From now on to November the news papers may be expected to announce that "General Harrison passed n very quiet Sabbath." After November he will doubt less pass his Sundays in the same unobtru sive manner, but the papers will hardly deem the fact worth making a note of. DR. JOHN A. CRAWFORD. Sax Francisco, July 26Some days ago a story was circulated that Thomas t. Ewing of this city had been sent to West Seattle in the interest of the Southern Pa cific company. It was stated that his visit would probably result in that company building some branch lines in that section, eventually making West Seattle the north ern terminus instead of Portland. Both Mr. Ewing and Col. Fred Crocder denv the story, the latter stating that his company has never thought of having any railroad interests north of Portland. Another licdnction in Sugar. Sax Francisco July 26. The Californ ia sugar refinery to-day reduced the price of sugar three-eighths of a cent on all grades, making cube 8 cents andgranulat ed T cents. This is due to the fact that a few jobbers who had purchased largelv when prices were low were underselling the refineries. Tht American refinery re duced prices one-fourth of a cent yesterday; and is now one-eighth of a ce'nt higher than the California. The Climate of Oregon, Washington-, Julv 26. Adopted. Sax Francisco, July 26. Shipping merchants are urging upon fruit growers and dairymen to carefully prepare their goods before bringing them to market. A large shipping merchant said to-day: "A lower California date-grower has ruined his prospects for a market for his fruit in San Francisco by sending it here packed in a most slovenlv manner in irreat block wrapped in course gunny sacks. Butter of most excellent quality has been received from Oregon, but siniph' because it was Lunattactivciy packed in'blocks of ten or twelve poun'fs, instead of In neat two pound rolls, it had to be sold for the lowest market rate prevailing at the time. Oregon potatoes, which reached here in uneven packages, met with a similar fate, although their quality was first-class. A Millionaire's Will. ' Rociikstkk, fuiy 6.
