Sax Francisco, July 13. An evening paper is authority for the statement that some time since Clat s Spreckels contracted for 50,000 tons of raw sugar from Manila, and on this transaction alone, at present rates, he can realize $40 per ton.or a profit of $2,000,000 in the aggregate. A short time ago the American sugar refinery's stock of raw sugar exceeded its refining ca pacity, and, seeing no chance to handle the sugar within a reasonable period, a cargo was shipped to New York for refining there. The ship in which it was sent has just arrived in New York, and the advance in va'ue is $100,000. There is little in the present statistical position of sugar to war rant this large advance, and the rise is at tributed almost entirely to manipulation. The stocks of sugar in the world, however, are stated to be 400,000 tons less than a year ago. River and Harbor Bill. Washington, July 13.
