In these Instances they were verified." A remarkable case was brought to our notice yesterday, being that of a 15-year old daughter of Mr. E, P. Gilpin, a sub stantial farmer, formerly of Columbia, Missouri, now living near Colllsburg. tn this county, who had been totally blind from scrofula in the eye for fifteen months. She was treated by Dr. Eaton, who is now in this city, aftor one personal ezamina tlon, by mail with the gratifying result of restoring signc completely, ine uoctor and his young patient are both receiving congratulations. . The most disas trous storm that has visited Kansas City for years raged during last night until 13 o'clock. During the height of the storm Eighteenth street for seven blocks became a turbulent river which flooded all houses to the depth of two feet, and at Twenty third and Vine the Fifteenth street culvert was inadequate to the immense volume of water which backed up.carrving away two nouses, me inmates ot wbicn were rescued only with great difficulty. Those who saw the storm said that it was undoubtedly a cloud burst. Reports of death and destruc tion are numerous.but at this hour no fatal ities have been verified. A procession consisting of the fire depart ment,county and city officials and territo rials officers, as guests, marched through the principal streets,thc rou'e being crowd ed to its utmost by an euthusiastic thiong who cheered the boys vigorously for the record which they obtained in the contests at Seattle, earning $1000 cash and the championship trumpet, which, with their time record, makes them prepared to re ceive the adulation of the citizens. San Francisco, July 9 Owen Jones, one of the Pacific Cble Company, which is to build a cable line from Australia to Vic toria, B. C, by way of Fiji and Honolulu, arrived yesterday from Australia. In an interview ne says : "A came trom Aus tralia toEngland is already in operation, and is 'owned by the Eastern Extension Company. It is not expected that the pro posed line will enter into violent competi lion with the existing company. One ad vantage which thenewcompany has is that the cable of the former will all be laid in deep ocean, so that in the event of war no hostile ship can possibly pick up the cable and destroy it. Her Britannic majesty's ship Egeria is now engaged in making soundings for the new cable between New Zealand and Samoa. The work will be pushed ahead until Victoria is reached, and will be completed." SMitn, .Sheriff. Deputy. A Huatinir Arrldpnt. Oreuon City, July y.--Yesterday Ben jamin Cox and a young man named Phil ips were hunting for doer on the Sandy, near Cherry ville. They wt re on opposite sides of a canyon, when a deer ran between them. Cox fired twice and wounded the animal. Philips from the opposite side then fired, but missed the deer and struck Cox. The ball entered his head back of the riht ear, glanced around and came out ne.ir the right eye. His skull was fractured ard at last accounts the manwas unconscious and with no hope of recovery.
