Every office In the county tills year change hands. County Clerk tial hraith, who has filled the office with marked ability, we understand will take a trip to the Samnd with a, view of locating there. Mr. Montague and Mr. Davis will occupy the present Clerk's ollice together. Neither expect to have deputes after they get the . run of the office. Sheriff Smith, than whom there is none more competent in Oregon, may be relied on to remain in Albany and there will be no trouble about keeping track of hiin. Sheriff Sniallman will not have to hunt houses in the desperate man ner that is proving the experience' of sev eral officials, as he will only have to mount the jail stairs. Treasurer (Jlirl has a home here, and will probably remain in Albany, where he will prove the steady, reliable citizen that has characterized his adminis tration of the Treasurer's office. Mr Rcid the Superintendent is already pretty com fortably settled, and his successor, Mr. Curi will move to Albany and devote all his time to the business of the oHicc. Judge Whitney Is already located in the Foster lilock, and Judge Blackburn will retain his present otlieein the O. F. Hall. Surveyor Fisher is sufficiently "well fixed" so that the change of the compass to Mr O'Conner will not uliect mm. ohn Shea will rc main in Sweet Home, and like Mr Thomp son, will gaze trom a distance at the Al banv Justices as they tackle most of the business before he can get here. Stolen from a Laundry. San Wa in forms us that on Tuesday morning when lie went to his clothes lines over the laun dry, he discovered that during the night a thief had climbed up to the place and taken quite a quantity ofclothea belonging to different parties. Among the things stolen were ttijrtccn flannel drawers and undershirts, iifteen pairs of scks and stock ings and one handkerchief, lie is very anxious to know who the thief is, and if the .fellow will return the things he will confer u great favor on the "pioneer laundrymun. A Kink I.eitkr. The Democrat takes great pleasure in presenting to Its readers a letter from the hands of the talented wife of Consul General Bonham, of Cal cutta, Hindostan. Mrs. Bonham has many friends In Albany, Salem, and through the Valley generally who will be delighted to lie able to hear from her in this way. The letter was over a month on its long yoyage, but is as fresh as a May morning. A Hkokkn Axle. This morning while hurtying along one of the streets of Al bany at the rate of fully four miles an hour, perhaps five, the delivery horse of Jlrowncll Si Stanard run Into a blind mare, and the two horses and wagon became mixed up generally, resulting in a broken axle, and tins is the reason the testive de livery wagon has been off the streets since then. IdlKN WKIMIl.Vi. 1838 -18S.S. , Married June 3it, 183s, by Rev. Na thaniel Ingles, In Carroll county, Indiana, Mr. William Mcllrideto Miss Ann Crews. fter the lapse of half a century the gold en wedding was celebrated yesterday at their home in Albany. The stalwart form of the young bridegroom of twenty-three Is but slightly howed and the bony young bride of twenty-two is now u well preserv ed and venerable grand-mother. True in deed, time lias done his work with them as he has will) all the world. The lines of age arc in their faces and their whitened locks give token of advancing years ; yet as they stood up before the happy com. pan v of children, grand children and friends their hearts were young as ever. They told with delight of the fashion and scenes of fifty years ago. What would our young people of to-day think of having to publish the bans "three several Sabbaths in the church" and then have a marriage ceremony an hour long .' Their (iolden wedding was a little less tedious and less formal. They have had ten children ; hut four of whom arc living, viz : Mrs. Isaac Elder, of Kddyville, Iowa J Mrs, John Crawford, of this county ; Mrs. John Mil lard, of Albany, and Mr. John Mcliride, of Peoria. All were present and with nine teen grand-children and a few friends made a company of over fifty. The venerable couple took their places on the floor and after a few remarks of a historical charac ter by their pastor, Dr. Irvine, all joined in fervent prayer for Heaven's richest bless ing upon their declining years, 'then came the golden presents from children, and grand-children. A fine gold watch and gold-headed cane for Mr. Mcliride and a beautiful pair nt gold trained spectacles, gold thimble and wedding ring for Mrs. Mc Urine. Alter Hearty congratulations and many kisses from the little folk all sat down to a bountiful dinacr prepared by loving hands. 1 hen after some hours spent in a social way the company dispersed, with many good wishes for the venerable couple. Mr. Mcliride emigrated to Linn county in 1865 and hai resided in Albany for the last three years. A Small Picnic Party. This morning a small picnic party from Mr Hearsts' boarding house left for Sodaville to spend the day. It consisted of Mrs Hearst and daughter, Mr Thompson, Mr .A W Math cws and son, Miss ISurkhart, Rev. Rom Inger and Mrs Pollock. . Business Change. Our enterprising merchant. T C Pcebler In company with Harry Simms, have bought out the well known and popular St. Charles Hotel, and will conduct the business under the name andstvleofT. C. Pcebler & Co. We be- speak for them a liberal share of patron age, A.rcj. Excursionists. This morning t.n Raymond and Whitcomb excursion party from Boston, passed through Albany for Portland. There were between fifty and one hundred on board, and we under stand some of them pronounced the W ill nmcttc Valley as fine as anything in thi big worjd. Defalcation. The amount of defal cation from Dayton Si Hull, of Portland, is now figured out to be $3689.69. The crime of taking this money la charged to Win. Emery, of Corvallis, a son of l'rof. Emcrv, agent at Klamath. Emery denies It. What the proof Is In the matter we are not informed. . Tried for Assault, On Wednesday Mr. Thomas, of Hairlsburg was tried on a charge of assaulting a boy.son of C C Baber, of that place with a cane. He was acquit ted, 't ' A Bridge by all Means. If the Al bany Board of Trade would like to sub merge itself with glory and do more for Albany than several hundred thousand cir culars can do, let It put on foot a scheme for building a bridge across the Willamette at this city. It is bound to come some time and the sooner the ball is set rolling the sooner the brldae will be built. Fer- ies arc antiquated affairs and eye-sore to an advancing community, even Fox Val ley was too far ahead to put up with the Institutions and the precinct got a bridge. One can be built here if our citizen only say the word, and, as the Board of Trade Is the spokesman, let the members act, and the sooner the better, tor year Aioany, which pays nearly a fourth of the taxes of the county, ha been helping to bridge every little streem in the county, and very properly. Now isn't it about" this city' turn to get a benefit, for a bridge nere the county should contribute a very liberal amount and probably would; Albany would come to the front with a good sized um, its citizens and business men mould sun- scribe very liberally, because it would be a bonanza to tliem, and tne nirmcr 01 uen ton county would turn their pockets inside out. Now sec how easy the matter is, and shall we any longer remain idle when such a structure is so much needed here. Every city on the illainette will in time have it wagon Bridge. uoes Aiuanjj propose 10 be the last.' Mot much I Bells. While the "Champion," of the O. R. Si N. line, was lying at the wharf this morning, Bro. Bell, clerk of the rail road commission, hove in sight, coming up First street, blowing and puffing. . Said he wanted to go to Corvailis. The hotel man had told him the boat wa going north; but he suspected the contrary, and when he found out he had been deceived ottered a Democrat man a large tec to show up the hotel proprietor, winch was declined. as the fee had to he charged. After Mr. Bell had boarded the boat with (Japt. lieu, there were wren lieu present, tne (.apt. son being on board, and as the boat left things sounded a it tne awiss lien ringers were around.
